Readerjack.com “Halloween Short Story Contest” Rules
Eligibility

The readerjack.com “Halloween Short Story Contest” is open everyone. To register, log-on to readerjack.com and register as a member or author. It is free.

Entries must be stories that have a frightening theme. It does not have to be specific to Halloween. We are looking for a ghost story, a spooky mystery, a terrifying thriller, or anything else in your ghoulish imagination.

Stories must be no longer than 6,000 words. Stories must be unpublished and be original work by the person entering.

No co-authors or teamwork submissions permitted.

You may enter more than one story!
Submissions and Deadlines

The deadline for submissions is October 31, 2008 at midnight.

There is no entry fee.

Registering at readerjack.com is required.

Specify “Halloween Short Story Contest” in the subject line of your email submission.

Only email submissions with the story as a word .doc format attachment will be accepted.

Include the title of your story, and – your name, address, phone number, and email address, in the body of your email, title of the work, your name and state/ province and country at the top of your submission. When we publish it, the works title, your name, state/ province and country will be present and visible on the work. Prizes
- The winner will be featured in a future readerjack.com Writer’s Digest promotion (value: priceless).
- The winner will have their Short Story submission or another book posted on Readerjack.com for a 10-year term (value: $200).
- The winner will also receive an ISBN (International Standard Book Number) and will be registered at Archives Canada.
- Plus, they will receive an original book cover designed by Helix Concepts (value: $400).
All entries will have their work published as a Short Story compilation. All proceeds from the sale of this compilation go to a children’s medical charity.
Decisions
Judges will review all stories and make a decision based on artistic quality, creativity, originality of the story, and adherence to the contest rules. Stories that are vulgar or offensive will not be accepted
Contest winners will be posted approximately 3 weeks after the competition closes.
Rights
All stories remain the property of the author.
By submitting your work you agree to the Contest Rules and the Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policies of the readerjack.com web site.
Authors who do not win the contest have the right to submit their work on readerjack.com for hosting and publication, independently of the contest.
Claiming a Prize
The winner will be determined by the rules of the contest. If a selected winner cannot be contacted after several attempts or fails to claim a prize within 31 days of notification, the winner will forfeit his or her prize and the prize will be given to another author. readerjack.com has the right to substitute prizes. Prizes cannot be substituted for cash.
General Release
By entering the contest, you release readerjack.com, and its respective affiliated companies, directors, officers, employees, representatives, and agencies from any liability whatsoever for any claims, costs, injuries, losses, or damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with the contest or with the acceptance, possession, or use of any prize; including, without limitation, claims, costs, injuries, and losses related to personal injuries, death, damage to or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation, or breach or copyright. By entering the Contest, you also give readerjack.com, and its respective affiliated companies, directors, officers, employees, representatives, agencies, and partners permission to contact you concerning products and services and any other applicable information.
Conditions
readerjack.com is not responsible for and will not be liable for any lost, late, misdirected, failure to receive entries or failed computer transmissions or network, computer, or electronic failures of any kind including any communications or computer failures or circumstances which affect, disrupt or corrupt the contest in any manner. readerjack.com will not be responsible or liable for errors in any materials associated with the Contest or any and all other errors, omissions or causes of such. Works submitted will not be corrected. All works are submitted on an as-is basis. Readerjack.com reserves the right to change, alter or reformat the work for publishing purposes.
Consent to Use of Name and Work
As a condition of receiving any prize, winners warrant that they are eligible to qualify for the prize, and unless prohibited by applicable law, consent to the use of their name, address, picture, prize and/or entry for promotional and other purposes without further payment.

Miscellaneous
Entrants agree to be bound by these Rules and site Terms & conditions and Privacy Policy and by the decisions of readerjack.com, which are final and binding in all respects. readerjack.com reserves the right to change these rules or cancel the Contest at any time, at its sole discretion. It is up to participants to check their eligibility. This contest is void where prohibited. All applicable federal, provincial, state, and local laws and regulations apply. readerjack.com may prohibit entrants from participating in the contest and disqualify entries at its sole discretion.
